There are just five shopping days left to Christmas, with sales starting in some stores on Boxing Day. Here’s a guide to opening hours for major stores and supermarkets in Hatfield, Welwyn Garden City and Potters Bar, Hertfordshire, over the 2013 Christmas and New Year period.

For Christmas shoppers, John Lewis Welwyn Garden City will be open from 10.30am on Sunday, December 22 for browsing until 11am. The store then closes at 5pm.

The Bridge Road department store will be trading from 9am to 9pm on Monday, December 23 and from 9am to 5pm on Christmas Eve.

Is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

It will be open from 9am on Friday, December 27 for its clearance sale.

John Lewis Welwyn will also be closed on New Year’s Day – Wednesday, January 1.

* Waitrose in Welwyn Garden City will be open for shoppers from 11am to 5pm on Sunday, December 22.

The Bridge Road store opens at 7am on Monday, December 23 and again the following day, closing at 6pm on Christmas Eve.

Like John Lewis, it is shut Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Year’s Day.

* The Howard Centre, in Welwyn Garden City, is open from 9am to 7pm on Monday, December 23 and 9am to 4pm on Christmas Eve (Tuesday, December 24).

The shopping centre is closed on Christmas Day (December 25), but open again from 11am to 5pm on Boxing Day, although individual stores’ opening times may vary.

The WGC Next store, for example, will be opening from 6am on Boxing Day – Thursday, December 26 – for the traditional Next clearance sale.

* Marks and Spencer in the Howard Centre will be open from 7am on Christmas Eve, with the store shutting at 5pm.

It will be closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day, and open again on Friday, December 27 at 8am.

The huge M&S store at Colney Fields, London Colney, however, is open from 7am on Boxing Day.

* Tesco Extra in Hatfield opens at midnight on Monday, December 23 and is open on Christmas Eve until 7pm.

The Oldings Corner supermarket opens again at 9am on Boxing Day.

* The Tesco Express, in Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, will be open from 6am to 11pm on Monday, December 23 and is due to stay open on Christmas Eve from 6am to 10pm.

It is closed on Christmas Day but open again from 8am on Boxing Day.

* The Tesco Express, in Moors Walk, Welwyn Garden City, is also open from 6am on Monday, December 23 and is due to trade from 6am to 10pm on Christma Eve.

Shut on Christmas Day, the doors reopen on Boxing Day at 8am.

* The Morrisons supermarket in Welwyn Garden City opens from 7am on Monday, December 23 and shuts at 11pm.

The Black Fan Road store is open from 7am to 5pm on Christmas Eve, but is closed on Christmas Day.

It reopens on Boxing Day at 11am.

* Asda, in Hatfield, will be open from midnight on Monday, December 23 and again on Christmas Eve for last-minute shoppers. The store shuts at 7pm on Tuesday, December 24.

Closed on Christmas Day, the Town Centre superstore is open again from 9am on Boxing Day (Thursday December 26).

* Sainsbury’s in Welwyn Garden City will be open from 6am and 11pm on Monday, December 23.

And the Church Road store will be trading from 6am to 6pm on Christmas Eve and 10am until 5pm on Boxing Day.

* The Potters Bar branch of Sainsbury’s in Darkes Lane is open from 6am to 10pm on Monday, December 23.

Shoppers can pop in from 6am to 6pm on Christmas Eve but the store is closed on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

* Debenhams in Welwyn Garden City will be open from 8.30am to 6pm on Christmas Eve.

The Stonehill store’s opening hours on Boxing Day are from 7am to 6pm.
