An acclaimed pianist/composer returns to Welwyn Garden City this weekend to play some of his original compositions.
The Basil Hodge Quintet plays Herts Jazz Club at the Garden City Cinema/Hawthorne Theatre entertainment venue on Sunday night.
After a great evening featuring the music of Horace Silver last time out, Basil Hodge presents a powerful band to play his own work.
Hodge’s compositions have been described by Chris Parker, of Vortex Jazz, as a modern day Blue Note sound combined with 60s Coltrane.
Joining the pianist at the CW Entertainment venue in The Campus will be Tony Kofi on saxes, Quentin Collins on trumpet, Larry Bartley on bass and Clark Tracey on drums.
Herts Jazz’s website says: “Expect some hard swinging and passionate playing from these very fine musicians.”
Advance tickets for the gig cost £3 students, £9 members, £11 concessions and £12 full.
Walk-ups on the night are £5 students, £10 members, £13 concessions and £14 full.
The concert in Screen 2 of the cinema compex starts at 7.30pm and runs until 10pm.
