Welwyn United were made to settle for a share of the points as Ruislip Rangers Res scored late on.
The 1-1 result means they are down to second in the Beds & Herts Women's League Division Three, two points behind Leighton Woodside.
Welwyn were quick out of the blocks and took the lead after just four minutes.
Nicola Mcrae’s throw in was nodded across the box and fell to Jasmine Smith, who side-footed it first time into the net for her maiden Welwyn goal.
Buoyed by the early lead, Welwyn looked to add more but despite multiple forays into the Ruislip half, they couldn’t add to their tally.
The visitors spent much of the first 45 minutes camped in their own half and when they did venture forward, left back Mcrae was ever-reliable, handling anything threatening and sending the ball forward for Welwyn’s next attack.
Emma Bowers went closest to making it 2-0 in the second half only to see her effort cannon off the post and the visitors began to grow in the game.
Welwyn goalkeeper Sophie Huckle was equal to everything that came her way but, with the momentum swinging, Ruislip struck with 10 minutes to go, heading home from a corner to dampen Welwyn’s afternoon.
Welwyn travel to Bury Rangers of Division Two in the Herts Women's Trophy on Sunday.
