There was late heartbreak for Potters Bar as the East Hockey League returned from its first mid-season break.
The men's first team were just a minute away from their first league win of the season in Division One South.
A short corner in the dying embers of the game at home to Blueharts gave the visitors an equaliser and left the game tied at 3-3.
Zahid Khan got two for Bar with Miles Tomkins getting the other.
The seconds secured a 2-1 win away to bottom of the table Southgate Adelaide in Division Three South West, Flynn Jennings and Warren Edmondson on target.
And in the same division there was another stalemate with Blueharts, Aryan Walia scoring for the thirds in the 1-1 draw.
The best result of the day though belonged to the fourths as they won 4-1 away to previously unbeaten West Herts in Division Six.
Andy Latham, Danny Becker and Matt Afford were all on target as Bar move up to seventh.
The ladies had a challenging day as they faced a 5pm start away to Saffron Walden.
They ended up playing with just nine and lost 6-2, both goals coming from Paula Williams.
Welwyn Garden City's ladies resumed their season in Division Two South West with a 2-0 loss at home to Hertford.
They started strongly with lots of attacking play down the left from Heather Veal and Fin McIntyre and these forays allowed attacking central midfielders Anna Geaves and Nina Taylor plenty of opportunities.
Hertford though pressed back strongly and it resulted in Welwyn being 2-0 down at the break.
A reset at half-time brought better focus and structure from WGC, frustrating the visitors who constantly pressed to get more goals.
The defence made lots of excellent interceptions and tackles, Charlie Honour and Lisa Sheffield leading the way, while Holly Butramis-Gair intercepted loads of aerials at right-back as Hertford resorted to desperate forward passes.
Alice Ward's first team debut brought a composed showing at left back too, complete with clever passing.
And there were chances at the other end, Connie Dykes and Pippa Webster unrelenting in their attacking runs and always putting pressure on the defence.
Hertford too though were resolute at the back and despite a number of near misses, they held out to complete the win.
The men of WGC travelled to Broxbourne hoping to bring a bit of consistency to their up and down start to the Division Two South West season.
That didn't happen though as they went down 4-0 with player availability once again proving a burden.
It has started brightly with some great attacking play by David Allmand-Smith and Max Davies and the defence was also holding firm, James Lutrario making a goal line clearance from a penalty corner and Dan Klinger making a fine save low down to his right.
Another goal line clearance followed, this time from Rob Sansom, but they could not stop a breakaway goal from the home side as they clinically finished off a great move.
A penalty corner brought the second, the ball slipping through the grasp of the normally reliable Klinger, and the second half provided no relief either
Hashim Awan went close after rounding the keeper and Callum Barr made a superb last ditch tackle to avoid further embarrassment but Welwyn were well beaten.
There was better news from the seconds and thirds though.
The twos beat Letchworth 5-2 in Division Five to sit fourth while the threes also beat their garden city rivals in Division Six, the 2-1 success moving them up to sixth.
