The obvious disappointment was there but Potters Bar Town manager Max Mitchell says their draw away to Chatham Town can be viewed as a positive.

The Scholars had raced into a 2-0 half-time lead in the Isthmian League Premier Division match, Brandon Adams and Ben Ward-Cochrane scoring to complete an excellent first 45.

They couldn't hit those heights in the second period and the hosts recovered to salvage a 2-2 draw, the equaliser coming eight minutes from time, but manager Max Mitchell was still looking on the bright side of things.

He said: "It was a really dominating performance, especially in the first half. That was exceptional.

"There was pressure in the second half, we had deal with some aerial threats from throws and set-plays, which we knew we'd have to deal with coming here.

"And there were moments in transition where we needed to be a little bit cuter and secure the first pass, we didn't do that as much in the second half.

"And we've succumbed to some decisions. I think there is a clear penalty in the first half on David Hicks, you can hear contact, and I felt the game could have gone away from them earlier if that had been given.

"Second half, Ronnie [Henry] has got his arms close to his chest and his arms are not out, but he's given a decision we don't agree with.

"There are some disappointing scenarios in the game that we are not happy with but we do need to look at our second half performance, although we don't need to over analyse it.

"But sometimes as a club you have to take a reset, sometimes you have to take yourself out of the emotion and understand where we are.

"We know we have loads of improvements to make but we also know we have had a really good start.

"We've come  to a good side who respectfully probably want to be doing better than they are doing and we've got a point.

"We may look back on this game in six months and think it was a good point.

"I'm really pleased with the boys, the dedication and togetherness has been superb and the fact they are dejected after a 2-2 draw away to Chatham is a really good sign."

The Scholars now turn their attention to the FA Trophy first round and a trip to Biggleswade Town on Saturday.
