Welwyn Garden City survived a late fightback at Kidlington to move back into the Southern League play-off places.

The Citizens had roared into a 3-0 lead early in the second half but a double from Powfil Raposo, the first a penalty on 71 minutes and the second eight minutes later, had threatened to derail the good day out.

However, a goal deep in stoppage time not only clinched a hat-trick for Bailey Stevenson, his first treble of the season, it helped WGC to a 4-2 success.

Zuriel Otseh-Taiwo had put them in front after just six minutes, arriving unmarked at the back post, and Stevenson got his first of the afternoon on the stroke of half-time, finishing off a clever free-kick and one-two with Brad Wadkins.

A sublime chip got his second on 48 and at that point they were cruising but the way they allowed Kidlington back into the contest will cause some concern for manager Marc Weatherstone.

Stevenson's treble means he has now scored 11 in the league and 13 in all competitions this season and his efforts have pushed WGC fifth in the table with 19 points from 10 games, three behind leaders Hadley who lost for the first time this campaign, beaten 4-1 by Leighton Town.

They were plenty of goals elsewhere too.

AFC Welwyn produced a much better second half as they defeated Langford 4-3 at home in the Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy second round.

They trailed midway through the first half after a poor clearance by Ashton Broome-Alexander in goal was returned with interest but levelled just before half-time thanks to a Tawhid Juneja volley.

Will McNeil then put them in front 11 minutes into the second half with Kendall Ata Gyamfi extending the lead four minutes later.

Langford got a second on 70 minutes and a third on 84 but fortunately Jack Allen had grabbed a fourth for AFC in between.

Codicote were also among the goals as they lost 5-4 to Bovingdon in SSML Division Two.
