North Mymms Bowls Club have the honour of hosting the St Albans & District Ladies' Bowls Association finals - with vested interest in a few of the events at the two-day championship.
The first to be played was the Triples League where Mymms, winner of section A, took on Harperbury, victors in section B.
And after two hard-fought rinks, everything was decided on the final wood, with the hosts carrying off the trophy in a 28-27 victory.
Game two was the double rink category, a competition that has eluded North Mymms for many years.
And that is still the case. After battling through the rounds of the knockout cup throughout the season, they were beaten 32-29 by Batchwood Hall in the final.
However, it was a different story when Pam Bond and Barbara Valle met Pam Rodgers and Gill Marshall from Potters Bar in the final of the Australian pairs.
This time both ladies won, 9-7 and 9-5, to take the competition.
There was another win for North Mymms bowlers at the SADBA charity gala.
This was hosted by Potters Bar with 18 teams playing for the Strofton Trophy on a day punctuated by heavy showers.
The conditions did not prevent some excellent bowling though and the final result was so close that the top two teams could not be separated, meaning a share of the trophy.
The North Mymms players were Una and Alan Harman, together with Andrew Parsonage, while the Potters Bar trio were Diane Jewell, Steve Jewell and Pam Rodgers.
The conclusion of another enjoyable season at Potters Bar came with internal club competitions.
Tal Sidi defeated Alan Oldham to become the men’s champion while Diane Jewell retained her crown in an exciting match against Penney Billington.
Billington, and partner Mary Steed, did walk away with the Colins Trophy winning on the last end against Mary’s husband, Lez, and Peter Openshaw.
There were two finals matches that went to an extra end.
The Lewin Shield was eventually claimed by Terry White and Jan Southwell, beating Jim Shine and Rupert Maxim 16-15, and the other was in the ladies' Jubilee Trophy.
Billington was again runner-up, beaten 14-12 by club president Jean Scott.
The final action was a win for the captains' team against that of the president with 56 members involved.
After, the Anne Clarke Plate was awarded to Sue Powers and the Malc Cup taken by Sue Steer.
It was a quiet week for Shire Park Bowls Club (Tewin) as the season comes to an end, with only their finals weekend to come.
Park were well beaten in a friendly at home to Potters Bar, losing on all five rinks with their best showing being a 21-13 loss for Chris Goode, Paul Lohr and Bernie Kleiser.
They also lost away in Biggleswade to St Andrews with the top rink there being Goode, Kleiser and Dave Warner who won 19-15.
The final event of the season involved 26 members participating in a green closure match involving mixed rinks of men and ladies.
There were no losers on the day only winners and participants and a spot of rain couldn’t spoil the enthusiasm.
Datchworth Bowls Club final week of bowling started with a 107-106 mixed friendly loss at home to Sele Farm.
The six rinks were shared three each.
Ian Tyler, Barbara Williams and Steve Chamberlain lost the first four ends to trail 8-0 and they remained behind until they picked up two shots on the penultimate end, to lead 15-14.
Another three shots on the final end gave them an 18-14 win.
Nicki Berry, Ian Williams and Les Parsley won eight ends on the trot to lead 18-1 after 10.
They eventually won 23-10 but were pipped to the top rink prize by the 25-9 win for Ian Bartlett, Dickie Jackson and Steve Arnold.
They had trailed 8-1 after six ends but then went on to win all but one of the remaining 12 ends.
The final game was away at Luton West End and they returned with a 71-51 success.
Three of the four rinks were won, the bets of them being the 24-9 success for Celia Gordon, Dickie Jackson and Richard Harper.
They shared the first 12 ends equally but led 13-6 thanks to picking up multiple shots on four ends.
They then won all but two of the closing six ends.
Jack Harper, Ann Edwards and Derek Henley won four of the first five ends, to lead 11-1 and never lost it, running out 21-13 winners.
Ron Kitchener, Ian Bartlett and Terry Metcalf won all but one of the first seven ends to lead 7-1.
They then lost the next eight ends, to trail 11-7 before winning the closing two ends to win by 13-11.
