It was the perfect start to life for Welwyn United as they opened their Beds & Herts Women's Football League season with an away win.
They beat Bletchley Scot 2-0 on the opening day to go second in the fledgling Division Three table.
Welwyn looked the stronger side from the off and began to quickly carve out chances early.
And it wasn’t long before they were in front, Claudia Cowap-Whiskin showing great composure to beat two defenders and poke the ball home.
The visitors continued to sit in the Bletchley half with the midfield of Ellie Whitfield and Emma Bowers providing a constant threat.
Bowers went close with a long-range effort that sailed over the bar and Tracey Pilon was unlucky not to see her audacious lob find the net.
It was much the same in the second half as Welwyn created multiple chances but were unable to convert.
Worryingly, Bletchley began to come back into the game and Welwyn were indebted to their defence of Karen Merry, Nicola McRae, and Kristal and Saphire French who remained solid all game.
Late on Bowers finally got her reward for a day full of running when she caught the keeper out of position and slotted home for 2-0.
Welwyn now move on to a home game on Sunday against Bedford Albion.
