Potters Bar claimed the win they needed on the penultimate weekend in the Herts Cricket League - but Harpenden's success means it is they who are Premier Division champions.

They beat Hertford by 32 runs at The Walk but the crushing 220 run success for Harpenden over Shenley Village means they can not be caught.

Bar had hoped they could take the title battle to a final-day showdown at the new champions but it was not to be.

Having been put into bat, Bar had reached 253-8 in their 50 overs.

They had been ticking over quite nicely, if not rapidly, reaching 200 for the loss of three wickets in the 45th over.

That signalled the charge to their final total, Reece Hussian top scoring with 71 while there was 52 not out from James Scott.

The reply though had them worried, with Hertford well ahead of the run rate throughout.

They reached 200 midway through the 40th over, but one ball after that milestone had been attained, they lost their eight wicket.

And that ultimately was their downfall and the reason for the Bar success.

Anmol Maheshram was the pick of the bowlers with 4-42 while Scott also picked up 3-49.

The loss for Shenley Village to Harpenden opened the door for Old Owens, who needed to win their final two games to have any chance of avoiding the drop back down to the Championship.

However, they went down by 86 runs at home to Radlett meaning their fate is sealed before the last weekend.

The visitors batted first on winning the toss and reached 262 in their 50 overs, the final two wickets falling on the final two balls.

Jayden Broodryk led their batting with 61, backed up by 47 from David Burnell and 43 for Fraser Crawford.

Owens' top bowler was Ralph Lane with 3-13 from his two overs bowled, Stephen Williams chipping in with 2-36.

An awful start with the bat though cost them, leaving them at 23-3 after seven overs and putting them severely on the back foot.

Jack Timms (39) and Williams (35) steadied the ship and 32 from Rhys Carter gave them a little boost.

However, his departure at 168-9 left too much for the final pair to do and Owens were eventually all out for 176.

North Mymms dropped down to fourth after a six-wicket loss at Bishop's Stortford.

They made 195-8 batting first, 42 coming from Guganeshan Muralitharan and 32 for Yuvresh Malhotra, but Stortford eased home inside 40 overs, Malhotra returning with 2-42.
