Potters Bar Town prepared for their bank holiday Monday derby clash at Wingate & Finchley with a good performance and win - but manager Max Mitchell says there is still plenty more to come.
The 2-0 success over Hastings United brought their second win of the Isthmian League Premier Division season and their first at their temporary home at Kings Langley.
Steve Cawley, his fourth in three games, and the returning Nana Kyei, back for a third spell with the club, were enough and while there was obvious delight for the boss, it was boosted by the knowledge that this team have yet to find top gear.
"The work-rate was exceptional," he purred. "It's simple. You have to work hard off the ball and I thought we were brilliant in all facets of that.
"The front-line, Stevie and Nana, and the two wide players, they were brilliant in the press and I thought we were very controlled.
"We certainly got after them and won the ball high up the pitch.
"There were a number of times we won the ball, transitioned quickly, broke quickly and just didn't have that finishing product.
"We need to see a continuation of that."
Those chances that went begging are part of the bigger picture for Mitchell, the reason why he thinks there is more to come.
"We could have been two or three up in the first half," he said, "so I was pleased to get the goal before half-time.
"There are small tweaks that we can work on. It is still early stages but there are pleasing signs and it was really important to get the clean sheet.
"We took a lot of accountability for our performance and a clean sheet against Hastings is nothing to be frowned upon."
The Scholars have been busy this week bolstering their squad.
In have come David Hicks on loan from Stevenage, also back for a third stint, alongside a Bar youngster, Thomas Lethbridge making the move up from the Bar youth team.
Kyei completed the new faces against Hastings and the boss was particularly pleased with the ex-Barnet man.
"We were really pleased for Nana," said Mitchell. "He trained Thursday and played a behind closed doors game on Tuesday and showed exactly what he is about.
"I had a good chat with him about his journey up to this point and he wants to play games.
"He epitomised exactly what we are after in a Potters Bar player. His work rate and his calmness and coollness to take that second goal were exceptional."
