The newly-formed Welwyn United ladies got their pre-season under way - coming away from a friendly at Bury Rangers with a 1-1 draw.
In sweltering heat, Welwyn started brightly, however, neither side could find the breakthrough before a much-needed drinks break midway through the half.
Emma Bowers came close to opening her Welwyn account as play resumed, going on a mazy run only to be denied by the Bury keeper’s strong block.
The visitors dominated the remainder of the half and had a further opportunity to take the lead, Ellie Whitfield seeing her shot sail just high of the bar.
Instead it took a set piece for United to edge in front.
In the first period of the second half, Bowers whipped a corner into the box that evaded everyone, including the Bury back line, to nestle directly into the corner of the net.
The hosts were able to equalise after the second drinks break to draw level, however, Welwyn continued to press and were unlucky not to come away with a win.
Pre-season continues next week with a trip to Wheathampstead Wanderers.
