Potters Bar and North Mymms kept the pressure on leaders Harpenden in the Herts Cricket League Premier Division with wins - but Old Owens are back in relegation difficulty.
Bar made it nine unbeaten with a last-gasp victory over Totteridge Millhillians at The Walk.
They were asked to bat first and a slow start had them in trouble at 47-3.
Steve Gale and James Scott dug in though and slowly pulled them up to 105-4 before Scott went for 29.
Gales kept going and reached his 50 in 116 balls, with a meaningful team total in sight.
Ashleigh Cox came in and upped the rate, with the pair making 50 in 62 balls, and Cox eventually departing on 42.
Gale though kept the pace and high and completed his 10th century for the club, finishing on exactly 100.
The total of 226 was a good one though and even though they started slowly in the reply, looking unlikely to take a wicket, the afternoon ticked on until they finally took the wicket of Will O'Donnell for an excellent 70.
That left Bar with three wickets to get and just 22 minutes to do so.
Thilan Walallawita returned at this stage and skidded one through Qasim Nasiri's defence for eight wickets down.
When Jamie Diamond was bowled by a wicked arm ball, Bar had eight minutes to get at the last pair.
It eventually all came down to the final over and on the third ball, Walallawita spun one through skipper Joe Wray's defence and into middle stump.
He finished on 5-48 from 17.3 overs while skipper Luke Chapman took 3-45 and Jigar Mehta 2-25.
Harpenden's own victory leaves the gap at 38 points with five matches to go.
North Mymms meanwhile had a two-wicket win away to Hertford to stay third, four points behind Bar.
They put the hosts in to bat and had them all out for 240 in the 57th over, four of their bowling stars getting two wickets each.
Yuvresh Malhotra was the best of them with 2-24 while William Jones (2-45), Richard Oxley (2-47) and Rhys Wynne (2-50) were the others.
Wynne was out in the second over of the reply but not before 13 runs had been scored.
He managed five of them and crucially he was the only member of the 10 to bat that didn't make double figures.
Zaid Kureshi top scored with 62 while there was 37 for Richard Soulsby.
However, the winning runs did not come until the first ball of the 60th over, Jones hitting a four.
The other end of the table is not looking as rosy for Owens though after a 69-run loss at home to Bishop's Stortford.
The visitors set Owens a target of 200 after being bowled out in the 59th over.
Adam Bassingthwaite produced the match-winning knock, hitting 60 in 69 deliveries and taking Stortford from 100-8 up to to 196-9.
Rhys Carter took 4-77 in 20 overs for Owens.
The reply never got going though, Owens finding themselves at 63-6 in the 18th over.
And it was all over on 130 in the 31st over, Brad and Ralph Lane the only ones to get out of the teens with 33 and 29 respectively.
The result though means Stortford have leapt above Owens, pushing the Potters Bar side into the bottom two, 24 behind their opponents and just five ahead of Shenley Village in the automatic relegation spot.
