Old Owens took a big step towards saving their Herts Cricket League Premier Division future with a big win over a rival.

They had gone into their home game with Shenley Village one place above their visitors, the pair both in the bottom two.

But they ended the day outside of the relegation places with a 36-run win, a third success of the campaign.

They had opted to bat first on winning the toss and went on to made 191 before being all out in the final over.

There were some decent starts early on, Danyaal Khalid getting 22 and Jack Timms 28, but they found themselves in a bit of bother at 69-6 inside 20 overs.

Their innings, and ultimately the match was saved by the next three batsmen.

Chris Palmer and Brad Lane were first up, putting on a valuable 55 for the seventh wicket before Palmer departed on 26 in 59 deliveries.

Lane went 29 runs later having made 39 in total, coming from 96 balls faced.

The third of the trio, Jake Whickham stuck around until the end though, finishing on 41 not out from 66 balls, putting on 36 for the final wicket with Jack Bloxham.

In contrast Shenley were looking in good fettle when they found themselves 85-2 after 20 overs.

However, the next six overs brought five wickets and suddenly Owens had rescued the situation somewhat, leaving Shenley on 93-7.

The away side did kick on again though and got to 151-8 after 42 overs.

The last three wickets though belonged to Robert Sibley, part of his 5-35 in 12.1 overs, enough to leave Shenley all out for 155 in the 45th over.

Owens now find themselves eighth in the standings, out of the bottom two but only just, having the same points as Bishop's Stortford.

That was after the east Herts side held Potters Bar to a draw, a result would meant the away side missed the chance to close in on leaders Harpenden, beaten for only the second time this season at Totteridge Millhillians.

Bar put the hosts into bat first and watched them get to 274, more than half of that coming from opener Sam Davis who was sixth man out having made 152 in 159 deliveries, including 22 fours.

Jigar Mehta and Thilan Walallawita both took three wickets while Ashleigh Cox got two.

There was a partnership of 72 for the second wicket between James Seward (40) and Reece Hussain (66) with Hussain and Charlie Scott (21) added 61 for the third.

James Scott (35), Cox (30) and Walallawits (22) tried to keep the momentum going but they were eventually left needing to see out the final two overs with one wicket remaining.

North Mymms are third, six points behind Potters Bar after losing by one wicket at home to Radlett.

They made 180 batting first, Yuvresh Malhotra top scoring with 46 while Richard Soulsby managed 41.

The game looked to have moved away from them when Radlett got to 145-5 after 35 overs.

But Dharmarajsinh Jhala took two wickets in two balls in the next over and he then got two in the same 42nd over as Radlett were suddenly 162-9.

The away side though still had Kabir Toor at the crease and three sixes in the next seven balls gave them the win.

Jhala though finished on a wonderful 7-50.
