Welwyn Garden City and Tewin remain firmly in the hunt for promotion after both picked up victories in the Herts Cricket League.

Welwyn are second in the Championship still, remaining 14 points behind leaders Flitwick who also won.

WGC had triumphed by four wickets away to Hoddesdon.

The home side put themselves into bat first and made a steady start with the top five all reaching double figures, the lowest being 14 from Gagan Dissanayake and the highest the patient 62 from Ross Clarke.

That also proved the top score of the innings as Hoddesdon finished their 60 overs on 219-7.

The pick of the Welwyn bowlers was skipper Connor Emerton with 3-34.

The reply saw two wickets fall in the first 10 overs with just 32 runs scored.

However, that just brought Fayaz Homyoon and Radhakrishna Marripati together and they went on to craft a stand of 125 for the third wicket.

The latter was the first to go, falling in the 32nd over having made 81 in 78 deliveries, including 10 fours and four sixes.

Homyoon stuck around for another nine overs and pushed Welwyn onto 191-4, eventually returning to the pavilion after contributing 70.

Three balls later they lost Alex Chalker too but there would only be one more wicket to fall before the Emerton boys, Connor and Shay, took WGC to victory in the 51st over.

They host fourth-placed Dunstable Town on Saturday.

Tewin meanwhile are still two points clear of Bushey at the top of Division Three A after a five-wicket derby success at home to Datchworth.

The visitors batted first and after an opening stand of 44 between Luke Bennett (23) and Michael Nash (27), Tewin got on top, with a 23 from Chris Bonser being the only other Datchworth score in double figures.

It left them all out for 125 inside 47 overs.

Tewin's star bowler was Tom Woods who claimed a wonderful 3-8 from his 10 overs bowled, which included four maidens.

Paul Shankster landed himself 3-16 while Sai Nanduri and Jamie Bryce got two wickets each.

The chase lasted one ball more than 24 overs but saw the home side lose five wickets.

There had been a minor wobble as they went from 25-0 to 41-3 but the pair of Jordan Brunel (44) and Alex Hillman (30) dragged them close to the target before they pushed over it.

Tewin go to Allenburys & County Hall next while Datchworth, who are fifth, face bottom of the table Hemel Hempstead.

Knebworth Park are now just 13 points above relegation in Division Two B after a fifth loss of the season, going down by just one wicket at home to Hertford.

Having been put into bat, the hosts got to 158-9 with 30 from Archie Stephens the top score, just beating Kobie Richmond's 26 and the 24 not out from Dave Roberts.

And while Hertford always had time well on their side in the chase, Knebworth kept chipping away and taking wickets at fairly regular intervals.

It meant the ninth wicket fell in the 32nd over with Hertford still 20 runs short of the target.

However, they were able to get through to get them over the course of the next three overs to claim victory.

Hatfield & Crusaders won in Division Four A, beating Leverstock Green to move out of the bottom two, while Hatfield Hyde's win in Division Four B keeps them third, just four points away from the promotion places.
