A busy night of bowling kicked off the week for Datchworth Bowls Club.
It was a damp evening at their Turkey Farm home but the Blues stormed to a 55-21 win in Division One of the East Herts League followed up by a 45-25 loss for the Golds.
The Blues beat Rosehill Otters with both rinks victorious, the best of them being a 27-10 success for Dickie Jackson, Steve Arnold and Jim Smithe.
The Golds shared the rinks with Potters Bar Glyders, with Ian Green, Keith Smith and Clyde Martindill winning 11 of the 18 ends to claim an 18-16 win.
However, Phil Holzbauer, Julian Hales and Steve Chamberlain lost the last eight ends on their way to a 29-7 defeat.
There was a third game too, the Women’s County League team of Barbara Williams, Jenny Holzbauer, Jan Smith and Ann Edwards losing 22-11 to Sele Farm.
Datchworth’s women also played their first ever match in the North Herts Women’s Bowling Association’s Challenge Shield.
And at home to Letchworth Garden City, they won on two of the three disciplines played to advance to the next round.
Chris Hill won 21-9 in the singles with the other success coming in the triples, albeit after after an extra end following a 16-16 draw.
Two shots picked up by Jenny Holzbauer, Janet Akers and Jan Smith gave them an 18-16 win.
The pair of Rachel Jones and Barbara Williams did suffer a heavy loss but it wasn't enough to prevent progress.
The men followed suit with a home win over Bishop's Stortford in the County Club Championship, winning 49-40.
Two of the three rinks went their way, the top one being a 23-14 success for Alfie Williams, Terry Metcalf, Derek Henley and Les Parsley.
They are now in the area final and will play Buntingford at a neutral Sawbridgeworth venue,
Datchworth did suffer a loss in the Welwyn Hatfield Bowls League though, going down 40-26 away to Welwyn & District in Division Two.
Maureen Blunt, Terry Metcalf and Keith Smith did get a rink win in a very close match, taking a 14-12 victory.
The other rink, however, saw W&D win 28-12.
In the Stevenage Mixed League, Datchworth picked up a win at home to Aston despite only having one of the three rinks win.
That was a comprehensive 31-5 success for Janet Akers, Keith Smith, David Castle and Steve Chamberlain, all adding to a 54-37 league win.
A mixed friendly at home to Welwyn Garden City was ended early due to rain,
Datchworth were leading on four of the five rinks at that point, and 62-41 overall, the best team being Nicki Berry, Bernadette Martindill and Graham Akers who won 12-4 after 13 ends played.
