Datchworth Bowls Club had three leagues to entertain themselves with this week - although they provided less than favourable results.
The Blues had the closest match, going down 30-28 at home to Buntingford Bears in East Herts League Division One.
Dickie Jackson, Rob Hazeu and Les Parsley claimed twice as many ends as they lost as they won 14-7 but the rink of Ian Bartlett, Steve Arnold and Peter Hills went down 23-14, nine shots dropped over three ends midway through the contest proving crucial.
Two matches in the Stevenage Mixed League both ended in disappointment.
At home to Whitethorn on Saturday, they lost 58-47, two of the three rinks losing and one finishing tied 17-17.
That belonged to Jan Smith, Ann Edwards, Ian Green and Derek Henley who led by one shot going into the final end, and then lost the extra end as per league rules, the point going to Whitethorn.
Maureen Blunt, Keith Smith, Neil Mean and Steve Arnold won the first end after the tea break resumption to go 10-9 ahead but by the time they won again, they were 18-10 down and would eventually fall 22-13.
In the other rink, Rachel Jones, Julian Hales, George Campbell and Les Parsley had led 17-15 with two ends to play but ended up facing a 19-17 defeat.
Sunday's game, however, was far more comprehensive as visitors Howard Garden won 74-38.
A mixed friendly away to North Herts saw Datch win 60-53, the four rinks shared equally.
All four were tight too, the top rink for the away side enjoying the biggest win of the day, 18-10.
That came from Jack Harper, Lucy Williams and Barbara Williams.
Shire Park Bowls Club (Tewin) had some good results in their matches.
They won home and away against Kimpton in the John Brown Trophy and that success continued in the Welwyn Hatfield League with four points taken at home to Harlequins, winning 36-33.
Shire Park’s first Welwyn & Hatfield Bowls Trophy match away to Welwyn & District ended in a 52-50 defeat overall, but both teams claimed four points as Park won two rinks.
In the East Herts Pairs, Ian Kirsch and Gus Edwards defeated two from Datchworth pair, but only by winning the extra end,
Martyn Taylor came unstuck in the Welwyn Hatfield singles, losing to Eli Davies of Welwyn Garden City.
The club's Australian pairs competition saw seven teams play 36 ends each on Saturday, with the semi-finals on Sunday morning.
Martin Taylor and Elaine Wulcko defeated Joan and Robin Bramson in the first of them while Bill and Linda Draycott defeated Laura and John Hastings.
The final will be played later in the year on finals day
Shire Park's two open days were incredibly successful, with well over 30 people attending.
Approximately 20 took membership forms away with them and 13 have subsequently joined, with more expected to and most of them saying what a friendly club Shire Park was.
