The men's first team at Welwyn Garden City Hockey Club confirmed their safety in the East League with a comfortable victory over Letchworth.
Playing their final home game of the season, a change of formation helped them to a 4-1 success and a final position of eighth in Division Two South West.
The game started with both teams testing the other's defence.
Letchworth were edging possession with passing around the back though and in one attack they got a short corner, which allowed them to score first.
It was scrappy and frustrating for Welwyn who had several blocks and attempts to clear.
But Welwyn's tactics of putting pressure high up the pitch and stopping Letchworth's possession started to work.
And within a few minutes of conceding, a well worked move allowed Welwyn to get up the pitch, with Nate Last driving at the goal.
His initial shot was saved but Paul Marchant followed up to equalise.
When Letchworth did try to move through midfield, they found a blue wall in their way and it invariably led to Welwyn regaining the ball.
Not long after the equalising goal and the home side were in front.
A short corner was shot in by Bryn Evans, deflecting off the post and into Marchant’s path who managed to pinball the ball into the goal.
The third was not far away either, Rob Sansom surging forward and then getting the return from May before sweeping it home first time.
Letchworth realised the importance of the next goal and pushed on looking to get it.
They were thwarted by the WGC defence and even short corners were repelled.
The hosts had a couple of chances that drifted wide of the target, or were just too far away from a crucial final touch.
But they would not be denied and a fourth goal 10 minutes before the end wrapped things up, some good play down the right side of the pitch finished off at the far post by Dan White.
They finish the campaign away to Luton Town on Saturday.
