Brookmans Park Golf Club officially began a new year - with the traditional first public engagement of their new skippers.
Mike Williams is the new club captain while Lesley Hewitt is the ladies' captain for 2024 and both took part in their drive-in, a shot from the first tee,
Williams arrived suitably dressed for the occasion, as is now normal for the new club captain.
He then proceeded to complete the start of his captain’s year by driving three balls down the first fairway to applause of the crowd of club members gathered to welcome him.
And like previous club skippers, he will be raising money throughout the year for two chosen charities - Prostrate Cancer and the Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice in Barnet.
Hewitt, the first female to have been club captain at Brookmans Park, took to the tee alongside her dog Rosie and sent her drives down the middle of the fairway.
Her charity for the year will be the Animal Care Trust at the Royal Veterinary College.
A spokesman for the club said: "With golf being promoted widely as great recreational activity for people of all ages from school children to senior citizens, this is going to be a busy year for Mike who is relishing the challenge."
