There were plenty of lessons to be learnt in the latest round of races at Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club.
With a strong breeze coming through the trees before reaching the lake at Stanborough, it meant the helms had to deal with wind that came with varying strength and often from different directions every few seconds.
David Lambert was the one who coped best with the conditions with wins in both races.
Patrick Rohart, making a return after breaking his leg, wisely retired after a capsize and Sheila Stowe retired from race one.
This left a close battle for second place which went to Evelena Hoffman, with Ruth Barr as crew, by seven seconds from the club's commodore, Charles Adams.
In the second race Mike Caddy was runner-up after keeping close to the winner most of the way.
Robert Evershed was first junior in race one and Rosina Barr in race two.
