It was another very busy week for bowls clubs with competitions coming in all sorts of guises.
Shire Park (Tewin) had mixed results.
In the Welwyn Hatfield League, the Yellows gained four points at home to Hertford, with a 28-15 rink win for Elaine Wulcko, David Williams and Gus Edwards contributing to a 42-31 success overall.
The Greens could only take two points though at home to Bengeo, that after a rink win for Tom Brown, Terry Crane and Byron Sinfield.
They also lost home and away to Welwyn & District in the John Brown Trophy.
In the Centenary Tournament, Park lost 54-46 at home to Parkside although Brenda Barber, Bernie Kleiser and Barry Wright did win their rink.
In the East Herts League, Shire Park lost at home on both rinks to a very strong Potters Bar team.
In the competitions, David Williams and Gus Edwards beat Parkside away 17-16 while Edwards lost to Rob Edwards of Welwyn Garden City in the Welwyn Hatfield singles.
However, in the SADBA officers singles, he did beat Paddy Jones of Welwyn & District 21-19 to reach the semi-final.
A friendly away to Royston saw Shire Park lose on all four rinks, with the only bright spot being that Martin Taylor in his first game for the club and Andy Short, another new member, picked up the top rink award with skip Gus Edwards, only losing 19-18.
Datchworth’s Welwyn Hatfield Bowls League team took on Parkside Woods in a Division Two match at their own Turkey Farm green and won 43-25.
Both rinks won but the best of them was a 25-8 success for Maureen Blunt, Phil Holzbauer and Julian Hales.
A second home WHBL game in the week saw a defeat though, Hertford Jesters winning 49-30 as both Datchworth rinks lost.
There were two games in Division One of the East Herts Bowls League as well.
The Blues travelled to Ottway Walk to take on Welwyn & District Stags in the first of them and lost 44-16 but there was better news in the second of them at home, as Rye Park Rangers were beaten 38-23.
Both rinks win, the top rink just being Rob Hazeu, Steve Arnold and Peter Hills with a 21-13 success.
The Golds were also in action in the East Herts League, losing 42-28 away to Much Hadham Hawks in a Division Three match.
There was one rink win though, an 18-11 victory for Dave Castle, Keith Smith and Steve Chamberlain.
The Ladies were also in action as they took on Hertford at home in the Women’s County League.
However, the team of Linda Tyler, Barbara Williams, Rachel Jones and Skip Chris Hills lost 17-12 despite winning eight of the 18 ends.
