Hats were the order of the day for Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club as the sun beat down on their latest races - although sharp gusts of wind also kept the helms on their toes.
David Lambert was in superlative form though in both pursuit races, coming through the field on each occasion from being the last boat to start to the first one to finish.
Sheila Stowe held off the challenge of Angelo Hansen for second place in race one despite being capsized by a sudden gust right at the finish.
Hansen also had to endure a few dunkings in Stanborough Lake but he recovered to finish second overall and first junior.
His brother Francis meanwhile battled with the commodore of the club, Charles Adams, losing out to the boss as stronger winds took their toll.
There was a good quota of juniors throughout the fleet, a lot taking the opportunity to put exams and revision to one side.
Robin and Toby Hailey worked well together in their two-hander dinghy in the strong winds moving in unison to cope with the gusts.
Their teamwork placed them fourth overall and second junior.
Matthew Dilks avoided capsizing to be third junior and tied overall with Ruth Burr and Ewelina Hoffman in their two-hander boat.
