A huge county football tournament is heading to Panshanger much to the delight of the home club.

The annual Mid Herts Rural Minor League Divisional Cup finals will take place over two days, starting on Saturday, May 20.

It has previously been held at National League Barnet's home, The Hive. However, redevelopment work meant the league had to look elsewhere.

And they decided that Panshanger's Moneyhole Lane Playing Fields-base was ideal.

A spokesman for the club called the decision "a privilege".

He said: "Being chosen to host the finals has caused excitement among our 400 players.

"The weekend will see more than 50 matches played, with more than 1,400 Hertfordshire children taking part, all aged between nine and 16.

"We will have six of our own teams playing in the finals as well."

Panshanger FC celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2019 and continues to grow in order to match the demand for youth football in the area.

They now boast more than 30 teams, ranging from U7 through to U18 and have also added their first girls' team this season.

They are a volunteer run club and are always on the lookout for new players, managers and coaches as well as sponsorship.
