Potters Bar had all their teams back in action - including an outing for the ladies.
They had a friendly with Blueharts but despite a fine team goal scored by Nicki Hughes, they ended up losing 5-1.
The four men's teams were all in East Hockey League action.
The firsts were beaten 3-2 away to Broxbourne in Division One South, even after taking the lead twice thanks to goals for Mark Turpin and Hugh Kenney-Herbert.
They sit ninth with four games remaining.
The second and third teams both play in Division Four South West and it is the threes who top the division.
They stayed there with a last-gasp 3-2 win over Royston, Ajay Patel, Aaron Patel and George Wickham the scorers.
The seconds also won, beating Luton Town 2-1 with both goals scored by Ben Cade.
They are eighth.
A solitary goal from Josh Becker gave the fourths all three points in a 1-0 win over Rickmansworth.
Both first teams at Welwyn Garden City were beaten by Harpenden.
The ladies lost 2-0 while the men went down 5-1 in Division Two South West, a result which strengthens league leaders Harpenden's hopes of winning the title.
WGC had made the trip without James Fowler and Callum Burr and from the push-back, the well-organised hosts pressed the visiting defence.
Welwyn did manage to spring a couple of counter-attacks though and from one of these, they shocked Harpenden by taking the lead, Bryn Evans firing home a penalty stroke after a hot was stopped by a defender's body on the line.
But the home side responded with some clinical passing and were soon level before taking the lead from a short corner.
The rest of the half followed a similar trend with Harpenden putting pressure on Welwyn to force the turnover and hitting the visitors on the counter attack.
A tough period ended with a further two goals and a 4-1 lead for Harpenden, who were happy to maintain possession at the back in the second half.
That did give Welwyn space to play higher up the pitch though and their key chances came from aerial attacks.
One from Evans was skilfully collected by Dave Allmand-Smith who forced the keeper into a full-stretch save.
A second shot from the WGC man had the better of the stopper but not the upright, pinging back off the post.
And pressure from counter-attacks brought a number of short corners and a fifth for Harpenden, expertly dispatched into the top right corner beyond the reach of Welwyn’s captain Dan Klinger.
Results elsewhere in the club weren't brilliant but there was another vital win for the ladies' seconds as they won 2-1 against Luton Town.
That keeps them top of Division Four, a point above also undefeated Stevenage.
Game of the day came for the men's fourths as they lost 6-4 to Southgate Adelaide in a thriller.
