The end of Premier League fixtures ahead of the World Cup mean fans may be looking for their live football fix - and Potters Bar Town assistant manager Darren Beale has just the ticket for them.

The Scholars went back to the Isthmian League Premier Division summit with a 1-0 win at home to Bowers & Pitsea.

Only 188 fans saw the game though, well below the club's average attendance, but with the club sitting pretty, Beale believes now is as good a time as any to head to the Lantern Stadium in Parkside - especially if Premier League fans won't see a live game at theit club until at least Boxing Day.

He said: "If we are still up there at Christmas then brilliant but if we’re not then we’ll know we still a bit of way to go and we have work to do.

"It’s just a real shame about the amount of supporters that were here.

"We’ve been in and around the top spots, we’ve been first and second and now first again.

"It would be nice to see some of those supporters in the surrounding area come and have a look at what we’re about.

"It’s not often your local side is sitting top of the league, for however long that lasts.

"It would nice to get a few more through the gate."

Beale has also promised that they will play a lot better despite the three points gained with a Dembele goal five minutes from time.

"Overall, we're happy with the result but not happy with the performance," he admitted.

"It was a frustrating afternoon, certainly after the performance we put in at Billericay [in the Isthmian League Cup].

"We had a lot of expectations of how we were going to play and we didn’t quite achieve that.

"The first half we struggled to get any real foothold in the game and we mentioned that at half-time. We’d gone from one extreme (at Billericay) to the other.

"Second half we came into the game and I think changing the shape and a couple of substitutions has helped us over the line.

"This isn’t the first time we have won a game late.

"It is pleasing how we are finishing games but we need to work on how we start them."

There was praise too for the goal scorer who made it three goals in three games since arriving from Bognor Regis Town.

Beale said: "Nick Dembele has scored a great goal, he’s got so much strength. You can see why the gaffer made that signing.

"He’s a great lad who has got his head down and is working hard.

"He’s not been with us long and already he has settled in with the partnerships, the formations we play, and he gets his reward for the hard work.

"I’m really pleased for him and how he took that goal because he still had a lot to do when he won the ball."

The Scholars are next in action away to Haringey Borough on Saturday before two home games to round off the month.

The first is against Lewes on Tuesday, November 22, while the second is the tantalising clash with Hornchurch, who sit third in the standings just two points behind Potters Bar but with a game in hand.
