One of the highlights of the Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club calendar brought the usual high-quality action.
The Commodore’s Cup at Stanborough Lakes recovered from a miserable and wet start to provide good sailing conditions in which the usual suspects prospered.
Alan Campbell led the first race off the line and was far enough ahead to secure a win ahead of Annette Walter in second and David Lambert in third.
This set up the pursuit race that followed with all three in position to win the trophy. Starting off last in their Supernova’s, Campbell and Lambert needed to get through the fleet and catch Walter.
The battle they had between themselves was exciting with Campbell losing ground after a capsize, but he recovered to force a penalty on Lambert and regain second place.
This in-fighting reduced their chances of catching Walter who won easily and thus secured the Commodore’s Cup.
Mike Caddy was the best of the rest and the Hansen brothers collected the junior prizes with Angelo first and Francis second.
