A blue sky, glorious sunshine and a light breeze greeted the sailors of Welwyn Garden City Sailing Club for the beginning of the autumn-winter handicap series.
The first race was dominated by the fast fleet with Dave Lambert, Roger Morse and Mike Caddy taking the first three places.
However, in race two the slow fleet fared much better with Sheila Stowe taking second and Paul Lohr third behind Lambert.
Lambert was a clear winner overall with a second-place tie between Stowe and Morse.
Freddie Potter came out ahead of Pranay Chawla in the junior fleet but the lighter conditions for race two did not appeal to the youngsters and they opted out.
A spokesman for the club joked: "Clearly they didn’t appreciate the subtleties of keeping a boat moving in next to no wind."
