The Global Sporting Connections Nike Junior International Queenswood tennis tournament began as the Wimbledon Championships drew to a close.
While Roger Federer, who played at the Queenswood event as a junior, met Novak Djokovic once again at the All England Club, the time had come for the U14 and U18 juniors to battle it out at the all-girls’ school.
Players travelled from as far as New Zealand, Canada and Russia to take part in the U18 ITF event.
The number one seed in the boys’ event Finn Bass (GB) had played in Junior Wimbledon the week before.
Finn, however, fell to compatriot Max Stewart, the eventual winner.
Stewart defeated Herts’ Charlie Broom in the semi-final.
The trophies were dominated by Brits with only Aubane Droguet from France taking a trophy in the girls’ U14 event.
The event suffered rain delays and moved indoors on two days of the eight to Welwyn Garden City’s Gosling Sports Park.
Organisers Global Sporting Connections thanked all the sponsors and volunteers for their help and support throughout the week.
