Robert Poth was left shell-shocked after being crowned FIS male champion at the 21st English Alpine Championship in Italy.
The Potters Bar skier claimed two victories, in slalom and giant slalom, and three podium finishes en route to taking the title in the 10th year of the event in Bormio.
Poth told the Potters Bar Edition: “I’m really pleased to to become the overall English champion even though I was a bit surprised.
“I’ve been overall children’s champion in the past but not won the overall competition before so it’s great to get another title.”
In the men’s U21 national junior slalom and FIS mens international slalom races at the beginning of the week, held on the World Cup Stelvio piste, Poth took third place and was first-placed Brit in both of the NJR and FIS competitions.
The giant slalom discipline was contested at the end of the week on the Stella Alpina Piste.
In the NJR men’s U21 race, Poth was the fastest British skier as he took the win ahead of Sam Todd-Saunders and Fraser Middleton in third.
The FIS Giant Slalom took place on the final day and Poth found himself on the podium again, delighted to achieve second place in the giant slalom event.
Former Mount Grace School pupil Poth trains privately with INSPIRE Ski Academy based in Oulx, Italy, with Stephen Edwards, Richard Breese and Simone Calissano who are on the European development excellence programme.
