The Holy Family Catholic Primary School in Welwyn Garden City has been praised by the education watchdog following its latest inspection.
Ofsted rated the school, in Crookhams, as 'good', highlighting its welcoming and inspiring environment where "pupils flourish academically and personally".
The report highlighted the school’s strong values, which shine through in pupils’ attitudes and relationships.
Headteacher Katie Linnane expressed pride in the report, stating: “This is a testament to the hard work of our pupils, staff, and wider community.
"We remain fully committed to providing an environment where every child can achieve and thrive.”
Expectations for learning and behaviour are high, and pupils strive to meet them, becoming confident, independent learners in the process.
The early year’s provision was also commended for helping children settle quickly and develop respect for the school community.
A standout feature of the school is its thoughtful enrichment programme. Events such as heritage and international days, as well as extracurricular clubs and trips, were noted for igniting pupils' enthusiasm and fostering a love for learning.
The school’s commitment to reading was celebrated, with its phonics programme and additional support for struggling readers ensuring pupils develop fluency and a love for books.
The curriculum also received significant praise for being well-structured and ambitious, even for pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
Teachers were recognised for their strong subject knowledge and skilful adaptations, ensuring all pupils thrive.
The inspector did highlight an area for improvement. "In some foundation subjects, changes to the curriculum are not fully embedded," the report states.
"Staff are still getting used to the new curriculum organisation. Assessment opportunities lack precision. The school should ensure that they embed changes to the curriculum fully. Ensure staff are clear about what pupils have learned and when new knowledge should be taught. "
Overall, Ofsted found that "The Holy Family Catholic Primary School has taken effective action to maintain the standards identified at the previous inspection".
