A Welwyn Garden City graphic designer who moved to the UK from Poland has been nominated for a prestigious award.
Magdalena Gluszak-Holeksa, known as Magda, moved to Welwyn Garden City from Wisla in during the pandemic, and works from a studio at Digswell Arts.
Her style leans towards clean, minimal aesthetics, and she enjoys working with experimental typography and hand-drawn illustrations.
Magda has recently been working on a project inspired by her new town and the Garden City movement - exploring the utopian and dystopian ideas in the context of her own personal journey as an immigrant.
The project aims to have a "nostalgic yet contemporary" feel, to prompt reflection and raise awareness about Garden Cities.
Magda's work has now been nominated for a Future 50 Award from the University of the Arts London.
Cllr Michal Siewniak, a member of Welwyn Hatfield's Polish community, said: "What a fantastic achievement for someone who moved into the area only recently and has been inspired by the town’s historical and socio-economic context.
"Well done!"

During this time she practised painting and engaged with gallery visitors.
The residency concluded with a solo exhibition in February 2022, entitled 'A Mountain, Too, Has Its Thoughts'.
