Two golf captains from Knebworth Golf Club have raised £28,005 for Young Lives vs Cancer, the UK’s leading cancer charity for children, young people, and their families.

Sean Burke and Sandra Moses from Knebworth Golf Club raised the impressive figure through various activities, from the Captain's ‘Drive in’, quiz nights, The Captains Charity Golf Days, Afternoon Teas and two staff members running the Stevenage Marathon.

Sean, the club captain, said: “I'm truly blown away with the support of Knebworth Golf Club members and their generosity throughout the year.

“The help and support of all concerned with this fine golf club has left myself and wife overwhelmed we are very happy that the money raised will go to such a great cause and help many youngsters in their journey with this terrible illness.”

Last year in Hertfordshire, Young Lives vs Cancer helped 129 young people with cancer and their families receive vital support as the charity gave out 92 financial grants to the value of £16,880.

Kim Mangelshot, Young Lives vs Cancer fundraising engagement manager for Hertfordshire, said: “When a child or young person is diagnosed with cancer life becomes full of fear, for them and their family.

“Fear of treatment but also overwhelming money worries, of having nowhere to turn to, no one to talk to.

“We rely entirely on donations to fund our vital work, so we can’t thank Sean, Sandra and everyone at Knebworth Golf Club enough for their fantastic efforts.

“Their support means Young Lives vs Cancer will be able to help even more young people with cancer to get the right support when they need it most.

“Their donation will directly help keep families together who have to travel out of Hertfordshire, to central London, to face treatment for cancer.

“I was delighted to present Sean and Sandra with hand-drawn thankyou pictures from some of our children at Paul’s House.”
