Children from Welwyn Hatfield's Ukrainian Saturday School learnt about the government for Parliament Week UK.
More than 20 children took part in a session about the role and functions of Parliament - what it is, what it does and how we can all get involved.
Director of the Ukrainian Saturday School Daria Diak said: "After the lecture, I spoke with the students who attended, and they shared how inspired they were by the topics discussed.
"They showed great enthusiasm for talking, debating, and learning more about the work of Parliament.
"On the same day, our history teacher Olga gave a lesson about the Ukrainian Parliament, allowing students to compare how the Parliaments of Ukraine and Great Britain function.
"Overall, the presentation was truly inspiring and a reminder that everything is within our power. When we contribute to the betterment of society, we can drive meaningful change."
The Saturday School was visited by Cllr Michal Siewniak, who gave a lecture about the structure, function and peculiarities of British Parliament.
Saturday School director and company secretary Liudmyla Kostiuchenko said: "The students listened attentively, answered his questions, and expressed interest in certain aspects of democracy in the UK."
One of the students, Anastasia, commented: "The lecture was definitely very useful because we live in the UK and it’s nice to know how and who runs the country.
"It was also very cool to see the passion that Michal had towards this subject it made the presentation very interesting."
Cllr Siewniak said: "It is so important to connect our younger generation, as early as possible, with the civic and democratic process.
"It is equally important to demonstrate that we all can influence change at local or national level.
"It should be our priority to empower our students and encourage them to take an active role in our society.

"Furthermore, understanding the benefits of democracy increases our confidence in terms of engaging with Government and Statutory Institutions.
"It will also improve our opportunities to improve job prospects, living conditions and health.
"Moreover, enhancing democratic experience can help to build a sense of ownership over our circumstances."
