Management changes have been made at a Hatfield care home after it was given a requires improvement rating from the Care Quality Commission.
The CQC carried out an unannounced inspection at St Audrey's, in Church Street, Old Hatfield, on July 16, finding the effectiveness, care, responsiveness and leadership to require improvement, while safety was found to be inadequate.
"We identified breaches in regulations in relation to medicines management, infection prevention and control, managing risk, staff competency, safety of the environment, person centred care, and management oversight," read the report.
Among the key safety findings was untrained staff, ineffective communication, the building being left in poor state of repair and communal areas not being clean.
This led to further concerns about quality of life for residents, immediate needs not being met and end-of-life care wishes not always discussed or reviewed.
The report also stated that provider Amdient Support Limited had failed to "ensure the service had stable, effective leadership", and that the system for "identifying and addressing concerns in the quality and safety of people’s care" was not robust enough.
In a statement to the Welwyn Hatfield Times, a spokesperson for Ambient Support said the provider was "fully committed" to making improvements, and that changes to management and training had already been made.
"Ambient Support can confirm that we have implemented a turnaround action plan after shortcomings were identified at our St Audrey’s service in Hertfordshire following a CQC visit," the spokesperson said.
"We fully accepted the findings and took immediate action to implement changes, including appointing a new management team and enhancing support from our quality and training teams.
"The well-being, safety, and care of the people who use Ambient Support services are our number one priority. The charity and its staff teams are fully committed to the continuous improvement of all our services."
