A Hatfield road was shut this morning due to a bin lorry fire during the early hours.

Police were called at 3.17am today (November 14) to reports that a fire had broken out in Wellfield Road.

Pictures from passersby show a red bin lorry broken down with several bags of rubbish left on the road.

(Image: Carole Humphris) A spokesperson for Herts police said: "Officers attended, alongside the fire and rescue service, and road closures were put in place while the incident was dealt with."

The road was reopened at around 8.30am.
