An intimate and poignant ceremony was held to mark Armistice Day at Hatfield War Graves on Monday (November 11).
This solemn observance honoured the fallen with the presence of Deputy Mayor of Hatfield, Mick Wise, along with air force cadets, members of the Royal British Legion, veterans, and families of those laid to rest at the site.
This gathering, although smaller, was marked by deep reverence as attendees gathered under the Autumn Sun and remembered the service and sacrifice of those who gave their lives in war.
This followed a larger Remembrance Sunday parade on November 10, where the people of Hatfield came together to pay tribute to those who served and sacrificed in times of conflict.
Marching from the front of Hatfield House, the parade saw army and air force cadets, scouts, guides, and representatives from the Royal British Legion all in unified in attendance, as they marched out to Great North Road, where the event concluded with a traditional memorial service held in Memorial Gardens.
Led by Father Darren Collins, Team Rector of Bishops Hatfield, the service attracted a diverse gathering of families and friends from all over the town, who all oversaw the proceedings with reverence and reflection.
As part of the ceremony, wreaths were laid by Lord Salisbury, Hatfield Town Mayor Shirley Asare, and Andrew Lewin MP.
Representatives from Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Hertfordshire Constabulary, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service, and the University of Hertfordshire also laid wreaths, symbolising the community’s shared remembrance.
Both ceremonies showcased Hatfield’s commitment to honouring its fallen heroes, with community members coming together to reflect on the sacrifices made for peace and freedom.
