A live music venue is set to reopen in Welwyn Garden City after a six-year hiatus.

The Green Room at The Doctor's Tonic pub in Church Road will open its doors again on December 7 for an impressive line-up of live music.

The long-running music venue has been out of action since 2018, but has now been revamped by Hertfordshire indie pop band The Metatrons, in collaboration with Daniel Murphy, the general manager of The Doctor's Tonic.

Simon, guitarist for The Metatrons, said: "The Green Room played a huge part in creating a local music scene from the early 2000's until it's closing around 2018.

"We are very pleased to help kickstart this new chapter for the venue, starting with an amazing line-up for the first night.

"The first thing we had to do was get the equipment working again. As it hadn't been used for a few years, we had no idea what worked or didn't, or what to fix or replace. It took some time, but now the venue is ready.

"We need more grassroots venues in the UK, and hopefully The Green Room will be back on the map for bands and promoters, where it belongs."

Daniel added: "It's great to have the venue up and running again and we look forward to welcoming local and national talent to the venue in the future.

"It's going to be a fantastic opening night on December 7."

The line-up features some familiar faces from the Welwyn Garden City indie pop music scene, including Billy Lunn from The Subways and Gavin McCann from Redmaxx - both of whom played early shows at the venue.

The Metatrons complete the local connection for the night, and headliners and newcomers to the venue, Tim Holehouse and The Escape Ghosts, will close the show.

Tickets for the opening night are £10 and are available now from wegottickets.com or themetatrons.co.uk.
