Police have joined the community at an event to celebrate Diwali in Hatfield.

On Saturday (October 26), Hatfield town centre filled with crowds to mark the Hindu and Sikh festival.

A special event had been organised by the Indian Cultural Association of Hertfordshire. It included food stalls, dance performances and jewellery stalls. There was also a DJ and Henna was on offer.

“It was good to chat to the Sikh community and it was also lovely that so many people from other backgrounds had come along too.

“It’s important that all our diverse communities feel supported by the police and hopefully our attendance at the event reassures the public that we take that commitment seriously.

“From all of us at Welwyn Hatfield Police, we would like to wish the local Sikh community a very happy Diwali!”
