Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council and the Welwyn Garden City Business Improvement District (BID) have been awarded a Silver Gilt at Britain in Bloom.
WHBC and the BID represented the Anglia region in the Britain in Bloom competition and were among 52 community gardening groups across the country that secured a place in the 2024 finals.
The council and the BID competed in the Business Improvement District category for the Welwyn Garden City BID area.
Each of the 17 Bloom Regions and Nations, which run individual Bloom competitions, nominated the highest performing entries to compete in the UK finals.
Britain in Bloom judges visited each of the finalists in August, and the winners of each category were announced at an awards ceremony in Manchester on October 21.
This year Britain in Bloom is celebrating 60 years in 2024 with the chosen theme for this milestone year being ‘friendship’.
The judges evaluated entries based on a range of criteria including the environment, community engagement and horticulture.
Cllr Sandreni Bonfante, executive member for environment, said: “I am absolutely delighted that we have given this prestigious Britain in Bloom award, particularly after scooping the gold and overall best BID award for Welwyn Garden City in the 2024 Anglia in Bloom competition.
"Many congratulations to everyone that was involved in our submissions to both competitions.”
