The Black History Month event held at Hatfield Fire Station has been hailed a resounding success.
Attendees of all ages enjoyed activities including face painting, tours of the fire station and fire engines, CPR demonstrations and live art sessions on October 12.
The event also showcased artwork displays by H'Arts in Mind, a larts and mental health charity.
The day was filled with vibrant music, delicious food and a strong sense of community spirit.
Organised by Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council in partnership with Herts Fire and Rescue and Herts police, the event celebrated the rich contributions of the Black community in Welwyn Hatfield and beyond
Councillor Jane Quinton, deputy leader and executive member for leisure and community, said: “Black History Month is an important time for us to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and accomplishments of the Black community here in Welwyn Hatfield.
"This year’s event was a fantastic day of learning, celebration, and coming together as a community.”
Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Amy Sheldon added: “It was a pleasure to attend Saturday’s event and come together with residents and local partners to celebrate diversity.
"Staff from our Positive Action team also came along to chat to residents interested in a career in policing.
"The team offers mentoring to applicants from under-represented groups to help them through the recruitment process. If you would like to find out more, please email mentoring@herts.police.uk.
“Don’t forget, the constabulary also has a Race and Inclusion Board. It gives you the chance to meet every month with senior officers to raise your views on how the constabulary can better support ethnic minorities. For more information, including how to join, please email rib@herts.police.uk.”
