Crowds flock from near and far to catch a glimpse of steam trains when they pass through our county.

Here are three locomotives that you will be able to see in Hertfordshire before the end of the year.

1. Black 5 locomotive - November 16

A Black 5 locomotive, pulling The Railway Touring Company's Christmas White Rose between London to York, will steam through plenty of our stations, with a scheduled stop in Stevenage at 7.20am.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to see the loco on its return journey, as the service will switch to a diesel engine from Peterborough onwards.

You might even catch a glimpse of Father Christmas and his Elves, who will be visiting the train during the day and handing out presents.

2. 70000 Britannia - November 28

On Thursday, November 28, trainspotters will have the chance to see the historic 70000 Britannia, which was built in 1951 and pulled the funeral train of King George VI from Sandringham to London just a year later.

Travelling from London to York for Steam Dreams Rail Co., you will be able to spot the locomotive steaming through Hertfordshire, or stopping at the following stations:

  • Potters Bar - 8.20am and 9.15pm
  • Stevenage - 8.50am and 9pm

3. Black 5 locomotive - December 7

If you miss the Black 5 locomotive the first time around, you can see it again on December 7 as it travels from London to Lincoln and back for The Railway Touring Company.

The train will be stopping at the following stations:

  • Potters Bar - 9.30am and 8.15pm
  • Stevenage - 10am and 7.50pm
