Estate agent GLPG are inviting offers for the Comet Way property, which closed down in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

"The site is occupied by the former Beales Hotel, a two-storey building, with areas of hardstanding land providing associated car parking," the listing reads.

"The property comprises a 53-bedroom hotel with ancillary accommodation including conference and meeting rooms, a bar and a restaurant. It is currently occupied temporarily as a hostel by the YMCA.

"The planning permission is for the redevelopment of the site for a high-quality residential scheme of 142 new homes with associated car and cycle parking."

The listing also confirms that "vacant possession is due from March 31, 2026.

Back in February, Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council pushed through plans for the new homes, after concerns about a lack of affordable housing were address by developer Hatfield Park Homes.

Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council’s development management committee debated the proposals after an objection from Hatfield Town Council.
