Escape to a world of 'Pure Imagination' when Charlie and the Chocolate Factory comes to Potters Bar.

Blockbuster movie Wonka introduced film audiences to a young Willy Wonka last year, while 1971 classic Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory starred Gene Wilder as the famous chocolatier.

Following their sell-out production of Beautiful, The Carole King Musical, Green Room Productions return to the Wyllyotts Theatre for their magical production of musical Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

Featuring iconic characters from Roald Dahl’s 1964 novel, including young 'Golden Ticket' winner Charlie Bucket and the mysterious Willy Wonka, this production is set to be a gobstopping show.

The stage musical features the two most memorable songs from the original 1970s motion picture — The Candy Man and Pure Imagination — together with numbers from the multi award-winning songwriters of Hairspray.

When Charlie Bucket finds one of the five golden tickets to the Wonka Chocolate Factory, Charlie and the other winners can’t wait to feast on the sweets of their dreams.

But beyond the gates, they discover more than just remarkable edible delights. As they embark on an extraordinary journey through Willy Wonka’s marvellous mind, they soon learn that nobody leaves the same way that they arrived.

“Wonka is a challenging part in all sorts of ways,” says John Isaac who is taking on the role of Willy Wonka.

"I love Gene Wilder’s portrayal in the film, but the musical version is perhaps even more chaotic. Audiences can expect something different, something new.”

The competitive Beauregardes, Salts, Gloops and Teavees accompany the cast to fill the stage with gloriumptious entertainment.

“This is a show that appeals to all ages,” says Alastair Woodgate, chair of Green Room, “and one that I hope will deliver a laugh-a-minute shot of pure joy.

"Transposing such a well-known story from film to stage is a challenge, but one we are relishing.”
