Three teenagers have been arrested in connection with a motorbike theft in Welwyn Hatfield.

The following were arrested on Tuesday and Wednesday (October 1 and 2):

  • A 15-year-old boy from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle
  • A 17-year-old boy from Welwyn Garden City was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, going equipped to steal, and failing to stop
  • A 14-year-old boy from Hatfield was arrested on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle

They have all been released on bail while enquiries continue, and a vehicle linked to the crimes has also been seized by police.

Sergeant Deane Brittain, from the Welwyn Hatfield Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “Unfortunately, we have seen a recent spike in motorbike thefts but we are working hard to tackle this. I hope the news of these arrests reassures the public.

“We will continue tackling the issue but we would also recommend motorbike owners to make sure they are taking steps to protect their bikes. For example, you can use a disc lock to help secure the front brake disc, or a grip lock to secure the brake and throttle controls. You could also use a D lock on the front wheel to stop it being wheeled away.

“We have lots of advice on our website at herts.police.uk/crimeprevention so please do take a look.”
