If music be the food of love play on!

And what a lot of love there was when Rotarians turned up to present a cheque for £400 to Music24 recently.

The group met in Welwyn Garden City‘s pub The Doctor’s Tonic and had a joyful upbeat evening playing, singing and creating their own very special jam session.

'Mind Our Music' is a project that supports adults with mental health challenges. This takes place weekly and typically attracts younger adults who identify as neurodivergent.

Music24 (Image: Welwyn Garden City Rotary Club) Music24 is a charity working with marginalised groups of people who live with a disability or ill-health in Beds and Herts.

The group specialises in providing a range of musical interventions that are of a creative or therapeutic nature to groups as well as on a one to one basis in a variety of settings.

The other project run by Music24 in Welwyn GC is the ‘Singing Cafe’ designed to support people who are elderly, frail, lonely or isolated and aged typically 55 and over, some of whom have dementia or are carers of people with dementia.

The group-evening Rotarians shared was totally inspiring, uplifting and worthy of the donation which will go towards new instruments and help to fund the group as it seeks to further establish its place in the community.

Such clubs and groups that come together make for flourishing communities. We all have passions and interests and once shared with others form the basis of our friendships.

If we are fortunate enough to have the time to pursue them the value cannot be overestimated.

Of course WGC Rotary Club is in itself one such group of folk.

The opportunities to meet numerous people with different interests are many and rewarding. The more people with more ideas and ‘bees in their bonnets’ of course, the more interesting life becomes and the more we can do.

So why not join us and share your passion?

If you do want to take up the challenge you can make contact through www.welwyngcrotary.org.uk or drop into Campus West where some of us meet at 11am on the third Tuesday of each month, come and talk to us.

Alternatively come and chat when you see us about town.

New faces are always welcome and offer fresh viewpoints. Not only would you be valuable to us as a Rotary member but will maybe this will prompt you to tell us about other causes within the town who could do with support, not necessarily through funding but in other ways.

We will always listen.
