A new artisan chocolate shop selling handcrafted Brazilian treats has opened in Hatfield.
Emmy’s Brigadeiro Artisan Chocolate Shop in The Broadway in Old Hatfield was officially opened by Welwyn Hatfield Deputy Mayor Lynn Chesterman on September 27.
The store, owned by Emmy Rocha, specialises in Brigadeiro, a handcrafted Brazilian treat which is slow cooked and then hand rolled into bite sized balls of chocolate, nuts and fruit.
"At the same time that I fell in love with my Brazilian husband, I also fell in love with the Brigadeiro," said Emmy.
"When he introduced me to his group of friends who were mainly Brazilians, I had the opportunity to see that they love partying. One thing came to my attention quickly. There was no party without Brigadeiros.
"Soon I became a huge fan of them. It is my mission to introduce this sweet little delicacy to everyone I meet. If you love chocolate and enjoy sweet moments, then you will fall in love with Brigadeiros too."
Emmy launched her business in May 2016, catering for corporate events and weddings before opening her first shop.
Councillor James Broach, executive member for resources at Welwyn Hatfield Borough Council added: "The opening of Emmy’s Brigadeiro Shop is not just a business launch, it is a moment of inspiration and a testament to the entrepreneurial spirit that thrives in our community.
"The opening of Emmy’s Brigadeiro Shop brings something unique to our town. The Brigadeiro is a symbol of tradition, joy, and togetherness.
"It’s fitting that Hatfield, known for its diversity and vibrant community, is now home to a place that will offer not only delicious treats but also a piece of Brazilian culture.
"I want to offer my sincere congratulations to Emmy and well wishes for the future. I would encourage everyone to visit Emmy’s shop and sample these Brazilian delights."
