Southampton star Aaron Ramsdale has been named as a new ambassador for the Welwyn Garden City-based Willow Foundation.

Willow, founded by former Arsenal goalkeeper Bob Wilson and his late wife Megs 25 years ago, has been providing special days for seriously ill people aged 16 to 40.

After fellow Gunners legend David Seaman and wife Frankie were as honorary president last year, the charity has now added another generation of Arsenal stopper to their ranks.

Ramsdale, who left the North London club to join Southampton this summer, has been announced as Willow's latest ambassador.

"I’m seriously proud to be an ambassador for Willow," the goalkeeper said.

"Having come from Arsenal where Bob and David are so well known, I learnt a lot about the charity and felt a very strong connection to it. When they approached me to be an ambassador it seemed like a perfect fit for me."

Bob is delighted to have Aaron on board, saying: "I’ve greatly enjoyed seeing Aaron develop throughout his career. It’s a real privilege to have him join myself and David at Willow, making three generations of goalkeepers.

"I know that Aaron’s generosity will make him a positive addition to the team, helping us support even more young adults with life-threatening illnesses."

Willow chief executive, Jonathan Aves, added: "We’re delighted to have Aaron on board. He has been a great support in recent years and we can’t wait to see how this relationship will continue to develop in the future."
