History buffs can enjoy the return of the Hertford Castle Heritage Day next weekend.
As part of the national Heritage Open Days weekend, a country-wide event to celebrate local history, Hertford Town Council will host its annual free Heritage Day at Hertford Castle on Sunday , September 8 from noon to 4pm.
Step back in time and experience the beautiful Castle lawn transformed to include a small settlement of interactive medieval encampments, plus a full programme of historical entertainment.
Visitors will be able enjoy shows of fire breathing, storytelling and Viking re-enactment battle scenes.
Plus, wield a bow and arrow in the archery workshop, play Viking games and participate in the re-enactment of the Castle's history.
Historic Hertford Castle will also be open for visitors to explore and discover the history within, including a historical treasure hunt and craft activities.
Surrounding the performance arena will be an array of stalls including food and drink, craft and charity stalls.
In support of this year’s Heritage Open Days theme 'Routes, Networks and Connections' vintage buses will be returning to Hertford and will be passing the Hertford Castle Heritage Day celebrations.
Buses that were built during the late 1940s and early 1950s will be providing free rides in and around Hertford from 11am to 5pm, boarding and alighting at Old London Road and The Wash — outside the new BEAM theatre and the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre.
For full details, a programme can be purchased from the Hertford Town and Tourist Information Centre.
A Hertford Town Council spokesperson said: “What a fantastic opportunity to explore the history of Hertford Castle.
"Do come and join us for this wonderful free event with plenty of exciting activities on offer for the whole family.”
