Welwyn Hatfield residents can benefit from government grants and local schemes to help reduce their energy bills and improve the energy efficiency of their homes.

‘ECO Flex 4’ and ‘Home Upgrade Grant 2’ (HUG2) are two government-backed schemes that fund energy-efficiency upgrades for properties.

ECO Flex 4 funds improvements to homes such as loft and wall insulation, solar panels and smart thermal controls.

This scheme is designed to help people insulate their homes, make them more energy efficient and save money on their energy bills.

This scheme has strict eligibility criteria so to find out more about the ECO Flex 4, contact Better Housing, Better Health by visiting their website bhbh.org.uk or by calling 0800 107 0044.

HUG2 is a scheme that funds energy-efficiency upgrades for properties that are off-gas heating.

If you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be able to get a grant to help with improved insulation, solar panels, low carbon heating and energy-efficient water systems.

This scheme also has strict eligible criteria so to find out if your household is eligible for HUG2, visit hugapply.co.uk/apply-now or call 0808 1968255.

‘SuperHomes’ is a new HERO (home energy retrofit option) scheme that offers all residents in Hertfordshire free and personalised advice to help enhance their home’s energy efficiency.

Residents can receive a free HERO plan and a free home survey. To register your interest, visit www.suporthomes.org.uk/beds-herts or call 01908 69991.

The SuperHomes scheme is supported by the Greater Southeast Net Zero Hub and delivered by the National Energy Foundations (NEF)

Another scheme funded by central government is the Boiler Upgrade Scheme which offers grants of up to £7,500 to eligible households to replace existing oil, gas or electric heating systems with more efficient, low carbon heating systems such as air or ground source heat pumps or biomass boiler.

This scheme is available to most people so to find out more and apply, visit gov.uk/apply-boiler-upgrade-scheme.

Leader of the council and executive member for climate change, Cllr Max Holloway, said: “Improving home energy efficiency is key to help reduce carbon emissions.

"It’s great to see that funding and home improvements are available for those in the borough who need it the most.

"If your household is eligible, I would encourage you take advantage of the support that is on offer, to not only help reduce your carbon emissions but also to help reduce your energy bills.”
