A planning application has been submitted to build a new substation in Codicote.
The plans, submitted by D&A Architectural & Structural, would see the substation built at Church Wood in Three Houses Lane, with three existing barns on the site converted in offices and storage space.
Objections to the proposals have already started coming in, with one Codicote resident against the plans in the "strongest possible terms".
"I cannot understand how this proposal has got in this far," they said.
"This development application is not only not in keeping with the surrounding area, it will also have a devastating affect to the wildlife, increase the pollution levels, have a huge impact on traffic and size of vehicles coming down the country lanes, causing more damage to our roads.
"It will turn what is a peaceful, quiet, residential area into an industrial estate.
"Consequently, I object in the strongest possible terms that any of this development should be allowed to proceed."
Another raised concerns about traffic, saying: "The exit onto the B656 is not safe for this purpose and could create an accident blackspot.
"The impact on the lane in the last six months has already been noticed by those using it on a daily basis for decades for safe access."
