A Potters Bar youngster has emerged as the U14 British Chess Champion.
Rock Yu, 13, took part in the British Chess Championships in Hull between July 25 and August 3 and was involved in seven challenging games, each lasting between two and four hours.
The triumphant young chess player claimed victories in six games and managed a draw against the 2022 British Champion.
Rock, who previously secured fifth place at the European School Championship, has represented England and Dame Alice Owen's School at the UK Chess Challenge Final.
The final game was amid protests outside Hull City Hall, however, Rock maintained his focus and gained victory in 36 moves.
Rock Yu said: "I heard noise from the rally outside but I managed not to be distracted and it made it an interesting end to the tournament.
"I'm really pleased to be the British Champion in my age group in such a competitive field."
